American B-Western star and singing cowboy Monte Hale was born Samuel Buren Ely in 1919 in Ada, Oklahoma, to Herod and Helen Ely. He learned to sing and play guitar at an early age. In Houston and later Galveston, Texas, he played for vaudeville shows and local rodeos. During World War II a job as a replacement guitar player with the Stars Over Texas War Bond Drive led to a friendship with several Republic Pictures stars and staff. At the completion of the tour, the Republic contingent recommended young Hale to studio president Herbert J. Yates. Hale went to California and met Yates, who saw promise in the tall, good-looking musician, and signed him to a seven-year contract, and promptly discarded his birth name for the more appealing name of Monte Hale. After a quick apprenticeship in a couple of bit parts, Hale was given the lead in Home on the Range (1946), which led to a five-year run as one of Republic's popular singing-cowboy stars.
Following the demise of the "B" western in the early 1950s, Hale toured the country as part of a musical cowboy act in rodeos and circuses. He made a few television guest appearances and taught James Dean his rope tricks during their work together on Giant (1956). Hale thereafter retired from films. In his later years, he wrote songs and continued making appearances at Western film fan conventions.- Very tall Shawnee actor. Rose Fonseca graced the small screen with her striking beauty, dimpled smile, likable, charming, alluring presence, and her warm, heartfelt, natural acting which made her unforgettable on such shows as "Good Times," "What's Happening," and "Days of Our Lives." Rose gained recognition in commercials and on the legendary television shows "Good Times" and "What's Happening," where she had minor parts and leading lady parts, but whether big or small parts, she had an everlasting appeal that is still felt today. Rose's excellent performances in "Good Times" and "What's Happening" won her a part as Valarie Grant on the longevity hit soap opera "Days of Our Lives" but she only appeared for a year and then suddenly disappeared from the small screen.
The performances Rose did leave behind are enjoyable classic television moments that are still enjoyed this day through re-airings on television and on DVD and she's very much remembered by classic TV fans, especially by fans of "What's Happening" that have called her the most beautiful of all the girls to appear on the show and easily Rose is one of the most beautiful women on television in her time and definitely one of the top ten most beautiful black women of the 1970s in show business. Rose Fonseca certainly was a true representation of black beauty that was in vogue in the 1970s. Hopefully more information will surface on this beautiful, gracious actress because she's certainly a credit to her race and the acting profession. - Born in Ada, Oklahoma to parents Blake and Jana, Deryk began his career in theater and plays at the age of seven.
